Frozen Brake Rotors by Diversified Cryogenics for the BMW M5 (e39)

Please note that the price above is for a set of 2 rotors. If you need rotors for the front and back, then please select the appropriate option above. You can select either the standard US rotors or the European 2-piece Motorsport floating rotors. You can order your rotors with optional cross-drilling and/or slotting. The cross-drilling will dimple the surface of the rotor, but will not go through the rotor.

Frozen Rotors by Diversified Cryogenics are simply the best brake rotors money can buy. New stock/OEM BMW M5 (e39) rotors (either US or Euro) are used as the basis for the cryogenic processing. Serious drivers--those who tend to cross the finish line first--take their edge where they find it. And a growing number of them have embraced the edge that they've found in cryogenically treated brake rotors. Here's why:

  • They resist cracking, warping and fading.
  • Rotors last 2-3 times longer.
  • They stop consistently, lap after lap.

The Cryo-treating process gives you extra brake disc life, which will bring your cost down over the long haul. Some track junkies view brake rotors as a consumable - something that you use for a couple sessions and throw away. With the Frozen Rotors you'll change your outlook on rotors and start seeing the benefits of Cryo-treating.

In the pictures below you can see the difference in wear characteristics between Frozen Rotors and standard rotors. This is of course on a Racetrack where brakes see grueling temperatures with no time to cool. Imagine the extra life on a street car where the brake system stays within reasonable temperatures!

    What is Deep Cryogenic Processing?:

Deep cryogenic treating is a one-time, homogenous process that permanently and dramatically improves the performance and useful life of metals in everything from brake rotors and performance engines to machine tools and gun barrels. Using a proprietary computer-controlled process, the metal is cooled slowly to deep cryogenic temperatures (-300°F), and slowly returned to room temperature, then heat-tempered as the final step. Computer technology allows us to regulate temperatures to 1 degree, accurately manipulating our Cryo treatment in accordance with the mass of your parts.

Although not apparent to the naked eye, the improvements to the metal are significant. Deep cryogenic processing creates dramatic increases in abrasive wear resistance and durability. The increases in tensile strength, toughness and stability couple with the release of internal residual stresses.

Deep cryogenic processing permanently refines the grain structure of metals at the atomic level. Carbon particles precipitate as carbides into a lattice structure and fill in the microscopic voids. This creates metallurgically improved and stabilized rotors that have a denser, smoother surface. As a result, you reduce heat and wear on brake rotors and pads.

FAQ from Frozen Rotors by Diversified Cryogenics:

What does cryogenic treating do for my rotors?
Cryogenic treating will increase the useable life of your rotors by 100% to 300% and typically increase the life of your brake pads by 10% - 50%.

Do I need special brake pads?
No. All brake pads work fine and will actually last longer. We carry a variety of brake pads for different applications.

Do my pads need to be cryogenically treated?
No. There is no significant advantage to having your brake pads treated.

Do you drill and/or slot rotors?
Yes. We can cross drill and/or slot your rotors. The cost is $90 per rotor set. If both cross drilling and slotting is desired, the cost is $120 per rotor set. Please note that the cross-drilling will only dimple the surface of the rotor, and will not go through the rotor.

There are others that claim to cryogenically treat brake rotors. Are you doing the same thing?
Yes and No. Sorry for such a vague answer but let me explain. Yes, there are others that freeze rotors but that is where the similarity ends. Here at Diversified Cryogenics we utilize a proprietary 60 hour freezing process that is different from the others. This is why a number of CART, NASCAR, Trans AM, Motorola/SpeedVision Cup and SCCA ProRacing teams as well as many Porsche, BMW, Corvette and other club racers use Diversified Cryogenics for their Frozen Rotor source. We are the leading source of Frozen Rotors for racers worldwide. Use the experts at Diversified Cryogenics for your next set of rotors.

    About Frozen Rotors:
The name says it all: they freeze brake rotors...rock solid. They use a deep-cryogenic process that permanently changes the atomic structure of a rotor at 300 degrees below zero. They have got answers to any technical question you might have. But the real truth is their rotors will stop any vehicle cold! In the past six years, they have developed an avid following of "Raving Fans" that will tell you (in their own words no less) that their brakes don’t fade, don’t warp and last two to four times longer. And any racer will tell you, races are more likely to be won with the brake pedal rather than the accelerator.

Cryogenic processing also works on many other things from engine parts, drills and machine tools, to rifle barrels and golf clubs. For our customers, cold is a good thing...a very good thing.
