CA Automotive RK520 Supercharger Kit for the BMW M5 (e39)

BeastPower is the exclusive US distributor of the CA Supercharger for the M5 (e39)

  • Estimated installation time is 20 to 25 hours.

CA Automotive are proud to release their very own RK520 supercharger conversion using fully custom made CNC machined parts.

CA Automotive have incorporated a single piece billet aluminium crank pulley to incorporate both the OEM crank pulley and the supercharger drive pulley as one unit, for greater strength and more positive drive characteristics. Uprated fuel injectors are also included in the kit.

Cracking plenum gaskets is a classic and well known issue on force-inducted M5's, and an obstacle CA Automotive was keen to overcome. This has been eliminated by the use of new CNC machined plenum plates as shown in the photographs below.

Custom designed in-house atmospheric blow-off valves have also been used to overcome additional issues. By using atmospheric, rather than recirculating blow-off valves like all of the other kits on the market, there is minimal build-up of excess pressure in the plenum, when coming off throttle. Because atmospheric valves release pressure faster, this gives improved throttle-response and smoother running characteristics, and also prevents the danger of pressure damage to plenum areas, all of which were major issues with previous forced induction kits available for the M5 (e39).

The other classic problem of MAF issues with forced induction has also been eliminated by removing the MAF sensors in favor of an Alpha N style conversion. No piggy-back management systems are used either, as CA Automotive's custom software, written in-house by their own software engineers, works via the OEM ECU specifically developed for this application.

Power is increased by 100 to 120 BHP over stock, using a single Rotrex C38 81 centrifugal compressor running at 6.5 psi with a completely stress-tested custom CNC billet aluminium bracket. This is based on an otherwise stock car with a standard exhaust system and unmodified engine, as CA Automotive's main objective during the design stages was to build a kit with 100% reliability and longevity, hence the relatively low power increase and use of a single compressor.

The M5 (e39) S62 enigine has a "natural" maximum limit of about 550 BHP before possible failure of the standard internals, so CA Automotive has purposely limited power on this conversion in order to build in a safety margin, and also in order to allow customers to add extra tuning enhancements such as racing catalytic converters, performance headers and so on in the future.

Regarding the dyno graph (see below), please note that the stock M5 (e39) engine's power prior to supercharging was 384 BHP, so CA Automotive's conversion has added nearly +110 BHP on the dyno, however, a dyno fan can never replicate real world air-flow, cooling effects, etc. Thus, the intake temperatures on a forced induction engine, on an average dyno run, exceed those experienced on the road, as the ECU restricts power as a safety feature, and consequently dyno figures are typically 10 to 20 BHP lower than on the street in the "real world".

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Due to the use of, and mounting location of an air-to-air intercooler, the rear of the front bumper requires slight modification. If your vehicle has other volumetric efficiency modifications, such as replacement camshafts, larger throttle bodies, ported heads, etc., CA Automotive will need to write a custom ECU software remap for your car on the track. Please contact BeastPower before ordering, if you have such modifications installed on your M5 (e39).
  • CA Automotive advises using an upgraded aftermarket clutch with this supercharger conversion (please contact BeastPower for advice)
