B&M Isolated Short Shifter for the BMW 5-Series (e39)

The B&M Isolated Short Shift Kit is quicker than stock and also has a smoother shift feel. This kit comes complete with mounting hardware and detailed installation instructions.

The B&M Isolated Short Throw Shifter is a direct, bolt-on, self-contained unit. When you buy a B&M Short Throw Shifter, you get explicit installation instructions. Installation usually takes about 30 minutes with nothing more than ordinary hand tools.

A B&M Isolated Short Throw Shifter offers a dramatic improvement in shifting performance due in large part to reduced shifter travel, or ‘shift throw’. ‘Shift throw’ refers directly to actual physical travel of the shifter stick - thus affecting the time it takes to shift from one gear to another. In a performance situation, the additional seconds (or fractions of a second) a factory stock shifter takes to go from one gear to another can result in slower elapsed times - or just a sluggish feeling when driving around town. A B&M Short Throw Shifter eliminates that sluggish feeling in a daily driver, and gives the racer an extra edge.

B&M has been in the shifter technology business for almost 50 years. Few companies have as much time invested in the research, development and practical application of shifter/transmission performance than B&M.

  • Shortens Shifter Throw by 25% (20% on the M5)
  • With Isolator
  • Spherical Bearing
  • Upper stick is made of billet 6061-T6 aerospace quality aluminum, clear anodized to military specifications. The vibration isolation system is fully rebuildable high compression Buna-n (nitrile) o-rings that meet or exceed ASTM D200, SAE J200, and Aerospace Standard (AS) 568A for complete 6th axial damping (100% isolated).
  • The lower stick is made of billet 416 heat treated high strength stainless steel.
  • The center pivot bearing has a raised pivot point to keep the shift rod angle at its original position. True spherical bearing consisting of an oil impregnated sintered bronze sphere and Nyloy (high temperature resistant nylon based fiber composite) race, which creates a slight pre-load for ultra-smooth precision operation and a self-cleaning and lubricating seal. This spherical bearing is specifically designed for long-term high-stress operation over millions of cycles. With the pre-loaded self-lubricating design there is no end-play or “slop” in the bearing.
  • The lower change rod pivot is German made high precision T-500 high temperature self-lubricating Igus bushings.
  • One Million Mile Warranty - covers the original purchasing consumer. This warranty is limited to repair or replacement by B&M of any B&M part that fails because of a defect in materials or workmanship. Implied warranty: Any warranties implied by law are limited to the duration of this warranty (except in those states where prohibited by law).

About B&M:
B&M Automotive Products was founded by Bob Spar and Mort Schuman (B&M). B&M began in 1953 as an automotive repair shop in Van Nuys, California. In 1955, Bob’s brother Don went to work for B&M. In off hours, the founders experimented in modifying the General Motors HydraMatic automatic transmission for drag racing applications. In 1958 Don bought out Mort’s interest in the company and the new partners created the first racing transmission business in the US. Soon after, B&M produced the only patented 4-speed automatic racing transmission in the industry’s history, known as the famous B&M Hydro Stick. Through the 60’s B&M became the dominant force in racing automatic transmissions where B&M enjoyed 100% coverage of the qualifying fields at national events in Funny Car. In 1965 Frank Cannon made the first 200 MPH Top Fuel run in history using a B&M TorkMaster at Long Beach, California. Don Prudhomme’s first solo effort was in the B&M owned and sponsored TorkMaster car. Prudhomme and B&M gained incredible visibility due to wins nationwide and the company continued to grow. In 1969 B&M teamed up with Andy Granatelli and Plymouth on what was known as the “P-69” program and developed the only automatic transmission ever for Indy car type racing. B&M also teamed up with Chrysler and developed the torque converter for the Hemi that dominated Super Stock racing in the late 60’s. The company was the first to create what is known now as a high stall speed racing torque converter as well as the first to develop the forerunner of today’s racing automatic shifters. By 1970, B&M was very well respected in the aftermarket and by the car companies. By then B&M had done development work and research programs for Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Ford, Plymouth, Dodge, AMC and Ferrari, and established itself as the market leader in R&D as well as product quality in the area of racing transmission technology. B&M’s deep-rooted involvement in racing is what has helped B&M improve the breed in street performance products. The company isn’t resting on its past achievements. The company has introduced hundreds of new shifter and transmission related products in the last five years and is constantly developing new technology.
