Question more pep desired

I have a 2003 530, manual tranmission. While I'm satisfied with the engine responsiveness in cooler weather, it feels sluggish in warmer weather especially around town. Would a change in gear ratio would make if feel signicantly more responsive or would it be better to consider supercharging?

I can't help thinking, at least for urban driving, the automatic would have been a better option for this engine.

I have an automatic too. Usually when I want more "pep," I put the transmission in S mode. That gives me quicker throttle response, and I believe pushes up the shift points.

I think that to get "cooler" air into the engine like we do in fall and spring months, we'd need to get cold air intakes. We're ingesting too much warm air from up in the atmosphere, so we want to get cooler air from lower points.

But my question is this: since its so hot in the summer, and heat comes up from the asphalt, aren't we ingesting warm air anyway?

All engines to varying degrees lose power as the ambient temperature increases. Running the AC doesn't help either but at least you can control that.

If I had another 20% torque I'd be satisfied. The supercharger seems to be the best way to get this but I'm a little leary of because of the relatively high compression ratio of the stock engine.

VF Engineering has superchargers for almost every modern day BMW on the road, including for our cars. They do extensive testing and probably take about a year before they're satisfied enough to put it on the market.

BeastPower sells those, so you might want to speak to the proprietor, Daniel, and get more information.

Their website it www.vf-engineering.com

Consider an ECU upgrade. It will adjust the fuel mixture and timing and should make the car feelmore responsive.

If u're looking for better response to ur throttle and some more power, chip, intake, exhaust should do ya.

But for much more power, gotta go with a supercharger. I want one some day.
