Default 2000 528i Transmission light

I have a 2000 BMW 528i with 151000 miles on it. I was driving in stop and go traffic and the car jolted forward and lagged on the shift. then the transmission light went on and the car went into safe mode where it wouldnt shift out of 2nd gear. I then pulled over promptly turned the car off and looked in the owners manual. I then turned the car back on and the light went away.
It has been driven light since and had no issues.
According to AGA it shifted past its parameter.

My question is what is wrong and do need a new transmission?

Thanks

I wouldn't say you need a new Tranny. Best to have the ECU read at a dealers to see if any faults pop up on the ecu!

More like you have blown A MAF sensor or a camshaft sensor. Did you read a message on the Instrument cluster like "TRANS FAILSAFE MODE" if so then its more than likely a sensor of some kind.

A trip to the A workshop would be worth doing!

HTH.
