BMW Warranty

In the US, some BMW owners wonder whether or not modifying their car will void the manufacturer's warranty. The short answer is that modifying your car will not void your vehicle’s warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prevents a manufacturer from voiding your warranty.

If you ask your BMW dealer whether or not your warranty will be voided as a result of modifying your car, then some may say that it will, as for them it is much more convenient to not have to deal with non-BMW parts. Also, the BMW dealer makes more money if they can claim that damage to an OE BMW part was caused by an aftermarket product.

However, many BMW dealers sell Dinan aftermarket products, which in all respects are no different from any other company's aftermarket products. BMW dealers have an incentive to sell Dinan products, and as such will often discourage you from installing any non-Dinan aftermarket parts.

The following is an excerpt from the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which protects the US consumer from manufacturers who do not want to provide warranty service as a result of a customer installing aftermarket products on their car:

“(c) No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name....” (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)).

We hope that the above information will alleviate any concerns you may have when deciding to install performance parts on your BMW during the time it is still covered by the BMW new car warranty.

Note that a BMW dealer will clearly not provide you with warranty coverage on the performance parts that you purchased. Each manufacturer of a performance part provides their own warranty, so if you have a problem with a performance part, you will need to contact the manufacturer of that aftermarket product. If the performance part was purchased from BeastPower Motorsports, we will be more than happy to assist in the coordination of the warranty claim with the manufacturer.

Please note that the above information is only relevant for those BMW owners who reside in the US and own BMW cars that were purchased in the US.
