The shifter and transmission needed work, as did the drive-shaft. Most of the issues had to do with extensive wear and tear.

engine

The engine had a lot of problems, so it had to dealt with as a top priority. A bad oil leak was the top concern.

exterior

I have many plans for the exterior, but haven’t done much yet, as I want to get the rest of the car sorted out first.

Interior

A new carpet, seats, floor pan and many other new items were fixed in the interior.

suspension

the suspension was in pretty good shape, but the engine mounts were in terrible shape, as were most of the bushings.

Replacing worn stock transmission mounts with new stronger 5-series version

Next on my list was to replace the worn transmission mounts.  These are used to support the transmission, and since they are made of rubber, tend to wear over time.  I could have used a new stock transmission mount, but BimmerWorld suggested that I purchase the stronger 5-series mounts that can use used on the M3.  If I recall correctly, the mechanic had to slightly drill out the mounting hole in the transmission mounting brace so that the larger bolt thread of the 5-series bushings would fit.  This is a simple modification to the brace.  You will also need to source larger mounting nuts to attach the new 5-series mounts.
