McGard SL Ultra High Security Wheel Bolts/Locks (with spinning head)
These are not the standard McGard wheel locks, rather they are a special high-security version with a spinning head that was developed for the UK market. This item is not available in the US from McGard dealers. The McGard SL Ultra Wheel Lock Bolts fit all BMW models (except for the 7-series and all SUVs).
These wheel locks are the absolute ultimate in wheel security. 4 wheel lock bolts (one for each wheel) and one key are included. If you would like even greater
security, you can purchase additional sets, so that each wheel will have more than one wheel lock bolt.
The McGard SL Ultras are not the standard McGard wheel locks. The Ultras are imported directly from Germany, and are being shipped to you from England. The Ultras have a two part construction, that incorporates a 'spinner' top, to prevent anyone from gripping the top of the bolt, or forcing a socket over the top of it, which is a weakness with the standard McGard wheel lock bolts.
These wheel locks are M12 x 1.5 and come in two sizes (select above when ordering). If you are using wheel spacers, please note that When measuring for the required bolt length, please add the length of your current wheel bolts to the thickness of your wheel spacer. Begin the measurement from under the bolt cone (i.e. where the bolt threads start) to the end of the wheel bolt.
These German made locking bolt sets use a computer generated key pattern, making every set completely unique. To make them even more secure, the key pattern is embedded into the head of the bolt, which means that conventional lock-bolt removal tools (which many garages own) will not even remove them! Don't worry though, as
the registered owner you can order a replacement key if you ever lose yours. To top it all off, the bolts are made from hardened alloy with a nickel-chrome finish.
These quality locks are Thatcham Approved (UK agency), and were selected as a best buy by Auto Express Magazine. The wheel locks sold by BMW dealers took Auto Express' "thief" just 5 seconds each to overcome. There were a variety of different times for different bolts, but the best by far were McGard wheel bolts. Nobody could get them off. In the end, they only managed to get them off after many minutes by using an outlet powered drill, which lets face it is a bit extreme! Incidentally, many manufacturers (Mercedes, etc.) now fit McGard wheel locks as standard because they are so good and well worth the extra over the normal bolts.
